I have the same problem going on with my 2000 vw jetta that the cooling fans stopped working one stopped then the other about a month later. The big fan provides cooling air for the main radiator. Just picked up my jetta from the dealership due to a power wire malfunction on the ecu 564 repair. The small fan is for the a c condenser it runs when the a c is active.

Fuse box on top of battery went bad replaced it both fans began working again. The vehicle was not repaired. When driving various speeds the check engine light illuminated. Volkswagen 2002 jetta tdi question.
